The present research paper deals with the subject of highlighting the charm of the decay of time on the surface of material with the help of Rena Papaspyrou's and Gordon Matta Clark's projects.
Initially, a general reference about the coexistence between the terms of the visible and the invisible in the ruined spaces is taking place, demonstrating the reason why these historical remains of another era constitute a source of inspiration in the art scene. In other words, their influence on the human being is highlighted through the sum of the messages and situations that they seek to reveal to them. Visible messages of the invisible. Then, the phenomenon of ruins in the city fabric is being studied, as well as the urban gaps, where the parting walls are located.
Afterwards, the term "ghost buildings" and their relationship to the passage of time are analyzed. The second chapter in a row concludes with an analysis of the exhibition entitled "Ruin Lust" held at the Tate Britain Museum and based on the lure of urban decay in British art from the eighteenth century to the present day. As the research attempts to analyze the impact of the ruins' decay on the literary industry, it examines the representative examples of the philosopher Georg Simmel and the author Svetlana Boym. The research focuses on the work entitled "The Ruin", in which Georg Simmel describes nature as a central factor in the ruins, and the author's term "Ruinophilia", through which she comments on the incomparable attraction of people to the ruins. Subsequently, the work of the artist Rena Papaspyrou is being studied in depth, through an interview and personal research. More specifically, reference is taking place to the effect of the decay of time on the evolution of her art during her lifetime. After that, the way each material is processed is examined, as well as the associative picture of the damaged material. Particular emphasis is placed on the process of "apotehesis" which she made known to the Greek public for the first time. The fifth chapter of the research is dedicated to the American artist Gordon Matta Clark's work. More specifically, a detailed report is made on its stimuli from the decomposed material and the technique of interventions called "anarchitecture", which he invented. Then, the difference between the use of "apotehesis" by the two artists is analyzed. At the end of this chapter, special mention is occured of Matta Clark's work entitled Bingo".
Thereafter, the works of Rena Papaspyrou and Gordon Matta Clark are compared, mentioning the similarities and differences between the two artists. In the seventh chapter in a row, our personal commentary on the traces of the partition wall and their general contribution to the urban fabric is formulated. Then, an attempt is taken place to find the reason for the existence of the footprints of the partition wall on a static and constructing trestle, through the interview of Mr. Ioannis Nasioulas. Finally, reference is made to the influence of time on the mirror of the partition wall, making a difference. In the summary of our research, the attraction of the damaged material is recorded, which, during its observation, creates the subconscious need of search for the terms of familiar and of acquaintance.
