In the present research, an analysis of the architectural model is made in order to find its contribution to the process of architectural conception. That is, how the model, through the various stages of its evolution, becomes an analogue of the thought and the creation.
The model, both as a means of representation and as a design tool, constitutes a small draft of a real creation. It is one of the most important means of representing architectural design and the only natural three-dimensional transfer and fabrication of architectural idea from fantasy to reality. The research of the subject calls for further knowledge on the term of representation and its connection with architecture. Analyzing the various ways and means of representation, the architectural model, very spontaneously, makes its appearance. Observing how a model works depending on the elements that accompany it, as well as the points in which it has an advantage compared to other means of representation, it manages to convince its success as a means of representation.
Afterwards, entering into the main subject of the model, begins the analysis of the term and its historical course. The factors on which the final morphology of the model depends, such as scale and materiality, are identified and investigated, while at the same time its various typologies are organized, depending on the time period of its realization during the production process. At this point, there is a discussion about the title of the research, meaning the reflection that concerns the identity of the model as a tool for conception, work and presentation. The construction process of the model and the quality of the architectural idea that it represents, during the production process, has a main role in its above classification and determines the different typologies and its final product. A final product that never stops being a desire of the creator and to function as a means of dialogue and expression of his imaginary ideas and of reality. A reality where the realistic dimension of the three-dimensional object, model, simultaneously contributes to the thinking, the design of the creator and the presentation to the public.
