The subject that this research addresses ,is the one of work and laziness. Î’ecause of the complexity of the subject and the vast range of social, economic and psychological parameters that define it, this search does not emphasize on the polarity between labour and free time, as in daily time utilisation, but attempts to raise a concern to the readers about the conditions they live and develop. This research will seek to redefine the concept of work and idleness and one's relationship with one and the other. It would be untrue to claim that opinions differ, when in most cases of social conventions, if not in all, a working person is considered to be a virtuous part of the social whole, while a lazy person the exact opposite. Therefor, the research will not use its data in opposition to those social conventions, but in an attempt to neutralize the dynamic these concepts have been burdened with in collective consciousness, allowing to the reader to re-imagine them. In the first part of the essay the nature of labour will be analyzed in a rational manner, using historic, social, economic data. The second part the focuses on the concept of laziness and the one of the idler,as well as the power they conceal, using mainly philosophical references. This distinction in the approach does foretell numerous elements about the nature - if there can be one- of every concept and it happened on purpose, though relatively automatically, in this manner.
