Hayao Miyazaki was born in the 5th of July 1941, in Tokyo Japan, and he is one of the most acclaimed directors and creators of Japanese anime films. The content of his films deals with issues related to the relationship of people with nature and use of technology and the difficulty of establishing a peaceful ethic between them. He often shows human beings coexisting in harmony with nature, making tangible connections with pre-modern Japan. In this way he creates a state of nostalgia for countryside life that that can be also seen in Furusato’s Japanese ideal. This ideal is in line with the Greek sense of “nostos” and signifies the repatriation and in this case the tendency to return to nature. In modern reality man has been removed from nature both physically and spiritually because of the frantic rhythms of living in metropolis. However, humans are able to connect directly with the natural environment following the principles Permaculture proposes. Permaculture is defined as the science of ecosystem design which proposes to meet human needs through nature combining ancient techniques and modern knowledge with respect for humans and the environment. Finally, it is a science with practical application both in the countryside and in the city and points the way to self-sufficiency and autonomy as man coexists with nature and receives the necessary goods from it.
