The amount of the square meters that an average house has is a rapidly growing number recently in Greece as much as in a global level with consequences as waste of material, public space, energy, etc. Nowadays, the idea of living in a small dwelling with little energy consumption (maybe even zero energy consumption or energy production) is something that concerns many people. There are many examples of this type of housing while some of them are presented in this research project. The main idea of these examples is small low-cost structures, easily assembled in a small period of time by the concept of “do it yourself”. In Greece this idea is not exactly wide spread except for the cases of readymade summer houses and some container transformations with ambiguous aesthetic result, while greek regulation is not support it.
In the second part a housing structure for one or two persons is being proposed with the assistance of the wiki-house community, which via internet provide a wood assembling way ensuring the stability of the structure and users can evolve freely this way and upload it so others can do the same. This free exchange of ideas and technics is a revolutionary idea that changes the construction sector, while provides precision and rapidness in assembling without specific technical knowledge. Energy autonomy of the proposed structure is also under research, which for the greek climatic zones is zero energy CO2 emission assisted by a photovoltaic panel integrated on the roof. It would have interesting results in environmental and financial level a number of residences like these, and there would be obvious the social consequences that cannot be predicted without an experiment.
