The Department of Architecture of the University of Thessaly joins the international architectural community in mourning the loss of Elia Zenghelis. He was a distinguished member of our Department’s community, both as an honorary doctor and as a lecturer in the postgraduate program in Architectural Design.

Elia Zenghelis was an architect and teacher of architecture with original architectural and didactic work of global scope, which influenced the international scene for decades and became part of modern urban culture.

Elia Zenghelis’ teaching at our Department was fortunate enough to be attended by students of the postgraduate program. He passionately mobilized their imagination and they surrounded him with love and admiration. His ideas for a cosmopolitan, groundbreaking, critical, inclusive and democratic architectural theory and practice are active and will continue to inspire the research directions and value propositions of our academic community.
