The Department of Architecture at the University of Thessaly joins the international architectural community in mourning the loss of Elia Zenghelis. He was a distinguished member of our Department’s community, both as an honorary doctor and as a lecturer in the postgraduate programme in Architectural Design.

Elia Zenghelis was an architect and teacher of architecture whose original architectural and pedagogical work had a global reach, influencing the international architectural scene for decades and becoming part of contemporary urban culture.

Postgraduate students at our Department were fortunate to study under Elia Zenghelis. He passionately stimulated their imagination, and they surrounded him with love and admiration. His ideas for a cosmopolitan, groundbreaking, critical, inclusive, and democratic architectural theory and practice remain alive and will continue to inspire the research directions and guiding principles of our academic community.
