State of Sabotage
On 30 August 2013, exactly ten years after its foundation, the State of Sabotage (SoS) was dissolved. The state had five provinces, 15 embassies and consulates, over 14,000 citizens, its own constitution, passports, currency and over 20 versions of its anthem. SoS was committed to civil values in the best sense, such as education, culture, and fundamental human rights. It crossed the lines between state sovereignty and went beyond them using artistic means. Four years have passed since then and despite the temporal distance, enquiries and requests haven’t ceased pouring in. The world is in transformation and poses new challenges which continue to render the brief existence of the State of Sabotage utterly relevant to the present, whether because of its migration policies, its approach to physical territory and legal gray areas, or its critique of the claims to perpetuity of state forms.
Robert Jelinek was born in 1970 in Pilsen, Czechoslovakia. Since 1990, his trans-disciplinary artistic works have been effective and progressive means toward realizing and mediating contemporary art impulses beyond the traditional art scene and industry. As a visual artist, Jelinek operates at the intersections between temporal media, electronic music, olfactory design, publishing, and statecraft, and is constantly in search of new artistic strategies, real and imaginary locations, and the active integration of a wider public. An essential element of his working method is expanded artistic positioning and contextualization to continually further the sense of immediacy between work and audience. This method has been developed and refined over the past 25 years through his various brands and manifested in cooperation with several other artists. Whether with his internationally-renowned record label, Sabotage Recordings (1994-1999), the hit perfume, CASH - The Scent of Money (1998), or the micro-state, State of Sabotage (SoS) (2003-2013), Jelinek’s body of work has consistently offered a bold alternative to the established practices and solutions of the conventional culture industry. In 2014, Jelinek founded the publication series, DER KONTERFEI, an extended artistic production in which epistemological interests and the drive for depiction are reduced to language and text, which also provides a growing curricular basis for a future SoS Academy. Jelinek lives and works in Vienna and Athens.

Biography
Vassiliki Yiakoumaki is Assistant Professor at the Department of History, Archaeology and Social Anthropology of the University of Thessaly. She has received her PhD in cultural anthropology at the New School for Social Research, New York (2003). She has an MA in Mass Communications from the University of Leicester, UK (1993), and a BA from the University of Ioannina, School of Philosophy, Dept. of Philosophy-Education-Psychology (1989).
She has taught at Panteion University, Athens, and Columbia University, New York, and also has teaching experience at Harvard University and New York University.
She has conducted research for European-Union research programs, through the Universities of Crete, Macedonia, and the Agricultural University of Athens.
Her research interests focus on the anthropology of institutions, and particularly on issues pertaining to ethnic identities and politics of multiculturalism in Europe, and on European cultural policies. In this context, she has developed a particular research interest in the area of food and eating in connection to modern consumption. Currently she is exploring, and teaches on, issues of jewish identity and culture in Greece and the rest of Europe. Her research focuses on religion and the public sphere, and particularly ideas and practices of religiosity among contemporary Greeks.

DeeP _ Designing the Extensively Enhancing Padova

This talk deals with the interpretation of urban complexity of contemporary western cities, starting from the case study of the sub/peri-urban areas of Padova, which bear paradigmatic features, and developing roundbreaking interpretative paradigms as well as non-conventional methodological approaches to the design of urban outskirts and sub/peri-urban areas.
The main focus is on the forms and spaces of the contemporary city, which are marginal, non-designed, abandoned, neglected, disused, rejected, refused: those spaces that are unacknowledged by the people, since no feeling of belonging arises towards them.
The formal and spatial potential of this critical areas must be acknowledged, in order to cope with the challenge issued by the contemporary urban aspiration to increasing the fluxes, supplying equipment and facilities, enhancing technologies, providing growth chances, in order to activate productive dynamics, where citizens, stakeholders and investors can settle a positive network.
The main methodological tool is made of open source projects, meant as series of actions aiming to accumulate a high knowledge of the case studies and to configure possible future scenarios for the transformation of the city.
The main case studies are located in the outskirts of Padova, with a focus on the North-Eastern district, which is likely to undergo remarkable transformations in the next future, and presents features that are paradigmatic of contemporary western cities.
DATA _ Developing Abandoned Transurban Areas

The amount of built and unbuilt areas, which are now abandoned, underused or in decommission, is progressively increasing. This problem has now grown to a critical size. We can no longer afford this waste. Land is a more and more meagre resource.
This problem affects each one of us: citizens, administrators, stakeholders, investors, producers, companies...
This is happening now, though it started long ago, it is going to get quickly worse if we don't act right now.
This is happening here in our territory, where it is more and more difficult to tell the city apart from the country side, and especially in those areas, which were once considered facilities serving urban centres: outside the historical city borders, along the railway lines or the main ring roads, in the industrial fabric sprawled through the suburbs.
This project deals with the west peri-urban area of Padova, along Chiesanuova road.
We’re going to design transformation scenarios, and to do this we need several skills, an effective local partners network, suitable technologies and resources. Our work provides open source knowledge, casts glances towards possible futures, fosters awareness and democratic participation of citizens and communities, creates chances for investors and stakeholders, provides support for administrators and improves territorial governance.

Luigi Stendardo (Napoli IT, 30.04.1965), PhD in Architectural Design, is Associate Professor of Architectural and Urban Design, at the University of Padova [UniPD], Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering [DICEA], since 2011. He leads RELOAD_Research Lab of ArchitectURban Design at DICEA. Member of the Teaching Board and Supervisor at the PhD Programme in ‘Architecture and Construction’ [DRACO] at the University of Rome ‘La Sapienza’. Member of HIT_Human Inspired Technology Research Centre and of the Interdepartmental Research Centre ‘Centre of Idrology Dino Tonini’ at UniPD. Professor (formerly Director) at the Master in ‘Architectural and Landscape Psychology’ at UniPD, Professor at the Master in ‘GIScience and Unmanned System for the Integrated Management of the Territory and the Natural Resources’ and at the Master in ‘Forms of Contemporary Housing’ at UniPD. Member of the Scientific Board and Professor of the Advanced Courses in ‘Engineering for Cultural Heritage’ and ‘Engineering for Archaeology’ at the University of Naples ‘Federico II’. Luigi Siviero (Parma IT, 09.08.1974), PhD in Architectural Design, is Associate Professor of Architectural and Urban Design, at the University of Padova [UniPD], Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering [DICEA], since 2011. MArch (Università IUAV di Venezia). PhD (Environmental Engineering, University of Trento). His professional and academic research interests are about architectural strategies on the relationship between urban facilities, infrastructures and landscape. He has recently been carrying out research projects on the relationship between landscape and roads, at different scales, verifying theoretical speculations through several design workshops, seminars, conferences and professional practice.

Biography
Nicholas Anastasopoulos architect, researcher, lecturer at the National Technical University of Athens. PhD in alternative communities and sustainability (NTUA). As post-doctoral Researcher in Ecuador (IAEN, 2014) he contributed to the FLOK Society project and conducted research on aspects of Buen Vivir and sustainability, and the impact of the commons on urban environments. His work addresses sustainability, expressions of the commons in space, alternative communities, future alternatives, systems, complexity and participation.
