Digital Tectonics
Exhibition of student works from the course Architectural Design V-VII Η: Digital Tectonics: From design to construction
Exhibition: 11/2/2020-6/3/2020
Exhibition Space of the Department of Architecture, University of Thessaly, Volos
Opening:Tuesday 11 February 2020 | 17.00
The exhibition presents the results of the course Architectural Design V-VII Η: Digital Tectonics: From design to construction that took place during the winter semester of the academic year 2019-2020. The course focuses on the possibilities of digital design and construction tools for the creation of a small-scale architecture, such as pavilions, canopies and other ephemeral structures, which aim to expand the design and construction capabilities to a more imaginative and experimental approach. The exhibition presents different approaches towards the design of an architectural pavilion, with a specific scenario, space and design intent, which will function either as a permanent or ephemeral structure in the context of a cultural or artistic event.
In particular, the design was investigated in conjunction with the construction, since the two processes are interconnected and there is constant feedback from one to another, creating a continuous process between design and construction. Thus, the connectivity and assembly options are elements that inform the design process.
