Spatial units osculate and interact with each other. The structure of space is a process of managing contradictory elements. The motion of the body is the key factor in order to form a complete perception of space. Therefore, as far as the human body is concerned, the transitional duration, specifies a limit area, which, in this case, is called intermediate space. This area is located at the precise limit of the two heterogeneous situations, so as to define the intention of this intermediate space to join the two parts, to prepare the entrance, to guide the motion to another space level, to distribute the motions along an axis, or even to expand the influence of the one against the other. The main role of the intermediate space is being analyzed through theoretical references, diagrams and examples, all of which condense the characteristics and the properties of each case.
This research finally results to the configuration of five main categories, throughout methods such as classification of the samples, reduction to the minimum and also correlation with other synthetical systems. This classification refers to genotypes that are able to compose the intermediate space regardless of the actual scale. Consequently, it is important to disconnect those categories from the possible typological characteristics that might have, in order to deal with them in a conceptual way, according to their place in the spatial structure. In conclusion, this research project has the intention of becoming a sort of palette that contents the basic management principles of the intermediate transitional spaces. The main goal is the palette to become an instrument for a creative synthetical process concerning the transitional situations.
