The main issue of the essay is the connection between the house, particularly the area of the kitchen, and the role and the position of the woman in the society during the 20th c. It is interrogated whether the social structure affects the form of the house along with the role that the gender relations play to the desegregation of the rooms inside the house. The research is based on international bibliography, though it focuses on areas of Greece after the dictatorship has ended, where plenty of changes have taken part in social institutions and structures. Next to the bibliography study, a research over women’s magazines of the same decades is taking place. This research gives us new information on the conditions and the movements of that time. The woman’s position as a housewife inside the family is concluded through the association of the bibliography with those articles that relate to the everyday issues and the demands of the society along with the annotation of specific plans of apartments in Athens after 1970 and selected articles from magazines of the same decades.
