During the 21th century, sea level rise due to global warming and natural disasters will cause serious problems, particularly in coastal and riverside areas in low lying areas. The fear of flood is bigger than ever. The demand of new ways of living and strategies that can adapt to the new conditions is big. Typical solutions include flood control projects and dams, but these measures are often not always well integrated in the overall architecture and landscape and are high-priced, being inaccessible to many developping countries.
This study, investigates architectural practices that can solve the problem of sea level rise in modern cities by focusing on the strategy of attack (or advance the line), i.e. an urban expansion on the water.
