This research paper is a presentation of information and thoughts about the technology of three-dimensional printing. Its purpose is to give the reader a complete and expanded view of it’s nature, how it works, the existing techniques, which is the history behind it, how it applies to various fields of human activity and what are the possibilities that offers. After analyzing the terminology and the operating principles, are beeing described the techniques developed so far and how they operate. Then, are beeing presented a number of selected applications of three-dimensional printing in Architecture, automotive, space, medicine, nutrition, art, music, fashion, archeology, safety and everyday objects. Emphasis is given in the field of architecture with application examples in the implementation of architectural projects with novel construction approaches, different from the current ones. In this way, those who are interested in the field will better conceive the potential of this technology in the architectural production. Then, the origin and the history of three-dimensional printing is also beeing reffered, while presenting the evolution of desktop printers and the mentality of open software and hardware that have been enolved around them. Thereafter, is beeing stated a personal view on the technology and the opportunities it offers in general. Finally, an indicative list is given with the characteristics of three- dimensional printers, representative of their class in order to understand the range of options available so far in the market.
