The main idea of the project is the regeneration of a cultural hot-spot in a very important crossroad of the city, by adding a big sign-item volume. In this case the landmark is the Bouzouki. In memory of a local taverna owned by famous bouzouki musicians, a cultural extension in the shape of the bouzouki’s resonator is developed. The new shell , which is added on a part of the old taverna’s terrace, in collaboration with the 3 storey’s addition on the other part of the terrace , are going to host a new radio-recording studio. The intervention includes an extension and unification of the last floor of the two main façade buildings by creating two extra domestic areas, a common roof garden-recreational area in two levels. In order to complete the block and create an urban attractor on the ground level, a small flexible auditorium and a new taverna are hosted on part of the old building and on the vacant space of the block. Due to the commercial use of the surrounding buildings a type of “prosthetic gallery” is developed to enforce the use and unify the aesthetics of the needed sun protection.
